The third-ranked Tufts men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten as it posted a 19-7 non-conference victory against Stevenson at Mustang Stadium Tuesday evening. Tufts (7-0) took a 1-0 lead 2:04 into the contest. The Mustangs (1-6) evened things up 29 seconds later when Lewis Anania took a long pass from Joe Candon at midfield and scored his fourth goal of the season. Two goals in a span of 32 seconds by the Jumbos gave them a 3-1 lead at the 11:37 mark. Gray King scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Gray McKee at the 10:18 mark. McKee also assisted on a goal by Cam Leydig with 8:45 left in the opening frame to tie the game 3-3. Tufts scored five straight goals in the final 5:08 of the quarter to take an 8-3 lead after one. The guests scored four times in a span of 3:27 to increase their lead to 12-3 6:51 before intermission. Shane Ford scored his second goal of the season with 27 ticks on the clock to stop the Mustang scoring drought. Tufts scored as time expired to take a 13-4 lead into the break. Stevenson outshot the Jumbos 13-11 in the period. Tufts had all five of the quarter's goals. Stevenson went into a man-up situation with 13 seconds left in the quarter that carried into the fourth. Ford scored again with 11:27 remaining, with Ryan Coleman assisting on the tally. Coleman then posted his first collegiate goal at the 9:19 mark. JT Thelen registered a man-up goal with 8:09 on the clock, with Leydig registering the assist. The Jumbos closed out the scoring with a goal at the 6:53 mark. Tufts held a 51-39 shot advantage on the evening. The Jumbos won 15-of-27 faceoffs. Leydig led the Mustangs with a goal and two assists, while Ford notched two goals. Coleman recorded a goal and an assist while McKee posted a pair of helpers. Dominic DeFazio had six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Jimmy Case also had two caused turnovers. Ethan Christensen and Dylan Harris each had four ground balls as the Mustangs finished with 35 as compared to Tufts' 39. Marc Poust played the final 39:47 in goal after relieving starter Sam Ross and made eight saves. Candon's assist was the first of his career. The Mustangs did not allow a man-up goal for the third straight game as Tufts went 0-2 with a man advantage. Tufts goalie Joe Theuer played the first 51:51 and made 17 stops. Stevenson is idle until next Wednesday, March 27, when it opens MAC Commonwealth play against Hood in a 7 pm contest at Mustang Stadium.
