The Cabrini men's lacrosse team combined a stifling defense and an efficient offense today, as the No. 3 Cavaliers rolled to a 16-5 win over No. 15 Dickinson at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Eight Cavaliers accounted for the club's scoring today, led by senor Matt LoParo, who paired five goals and two assists, while classmate Mike Gerzabek and junior Kyle Tucker scored three goals each. Fellow senior Jake Klein tallied three assists, becoming just the sixth player in program history to record 100 career assists. While the Blue and White converted its 27 shots on goal into 16 goals, the Cabrini defense never allowed the Red Devils' attack to find its rhythm, as Dickinson tallied just five goals on 25 shots on target. Cabrini's senior goaltender Matt Nestler was a major cause, as the senior posted 12 saves and five ground balls in 45 minutes of action, including 10 in the first half. Freshman Matt Sageder added seven stops in relief. Senior Tommy DeLuca paired three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while classmate Kyle Myers and freshman Corbin Carraghan caused two Dickinson miscues each. Sophomore Jake Huey controlled the faceoff spot, winning 11 of his 14 chances and joined junior Nick Werner with four ground balls. The Cavaliers wasted little time opening the scoring, as Gerzabek notched the game's first goal less than two minutes into the action. Dickinson responded 90 seconds later, as sophomore Tucker Booth evened the score. The defenses controlled much of the rest of the period, as both goaltenders recorded four saves in the opening 15 minutes. The Cavaliers broke the deadlock at the 2:25 mark, as Werner connected with LoParo. The goal would begin a string of 13 unanswered tallies for the Blue and White. Cabrini took control of the game in the opening seconds of the second quarter, as Gerzabek scored a man-up goal just 16 seconds into the period. Thirty-five seconds later, LoParo pushed the lead to 4-1. Minutes later, Gerzabek and freshman Kohl Wesner added two goals in a 23 second span. The Cavaliers closed the period as they opened it, as LoParo scored two goals in the final 1:08, including a goal with 0.8 seconds on the clock that gave Cabrini a commanding 9-1 halftime lead. The Blue and White scoring run continued into the third quarter with five unanswered goals before Dickinson senior Ryan Shaffer ended the Red Devils' scoreless run of more than 36 minutes. Freshman Griffin Moore scored twice for Dickinson (2-2), while senior Nick Goles paired a goal and an assist. Senior goaltender Cole Pellicano recorded 11 saves, as sophomore Teddy McFarlane added four caused turnovers to the defensive effort. The Cavaliers will hit the road for their next contest. The Blue and White will head north to Ithaca College (1-1) to meet the Bombers on Saturday at 1pm.
