A big second half gave Utah lacrosse a resounding 17-9 comeback victory over the Furman Paladins in Rice Eccles Stadium on Saturday, February 22. The Utes trailed 6-4 at the half, but came out on fire and outscored the Paladins 7-2 in the third quarter to take command of the game. They ended up outscoring Furman 13-3 in the second half to seal the win. "I'm proud of the guys and proud of the fans," head coach Brian Holman said. "It seems to be a combo. We were down at halftime and their goalie was making some really good saves. We just told them to stay with what we were doing, change their shooting a little bit and things would fall as long as we kept trusting the system. In the first half, we made some plays that weren't really focused on Utah lacrosse and more on making the play. Once we dialed in and started playing Utah lacrosse and changed our shooting a little bit then things started to happen." Colin Burke led the offensive charge with four goals and four assists. Three of his goals came in the second half. His first one came in a huge moment at the end of the first half to cut Furman's lead down to two and give Utah a little momentum going into the break. Coming out of the locker room, Utah ran off four straight and once they grabbed the momentum they didn't let up. They ended up going on a 6-1 run to start the second half to gain a 10-7 lead. After Furman scored to bring the lead to two, Utah never looked back scoring the next seven goals to lead by as many as nine. Zion Dechesere took over in goal at halftime and made six saves and only allowed two goals. MJ McMahon, Mac Costin and Jimmy Perkins all had hat tricks. The 17 goals the team scored is the most in program history as they had scored 16 twice before. This is the largest comeback in school history and the second time the team has made a second-half comeback. The first comeback was against Air Force last season when they were trailing by one in the second half. The win moves them to 2-2 on the season and they will now play on the road the next three games. First up, will be at Jacksonville on Saturday, February 29 at 1 p.m.
