In a rematch of a 2016 NCAA College Lacrosse Tournament First Round matchup, the 14th ranked Towson Tigers men’s lacrosse team hosted the Denver Pioneers at the famous Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, MD. Looking to rebound off a tough loss to Ohio State last week and perhaps get some revenge on the Tigers for their first round exit last season, the Pioneers headed to Maryland for their final matchup before starting in conference play. Led by its stout defense and senior laden offense, the Tigers looked to prove last years win over Denver was no fluke and that the Towson will continue its trend upward as one of the top teams in college lacrosse. From the start, Denver seized control early, taking a 4-1 lead into the half. The Pioneers continued their push to victory by taking a 10-4 lead early in the fourth. However, the Tigers would com roaring back, ultimately cutting the Pioneers lead to 12-11 with just 22 seconds left to play. However, the Tigers could not get the equalizer and Denver hung on for the victory. Ryan Drenner lead all players with six points in the loss while freshman Ethan Walker tallied four goals in the win for Denver.
