By 3d Rising   It’s the first of several championship weeks coming up over the next month that will be highlighted in the Lax.com Rising HS Games of the Week.   Maryland’s MIAA A Conference semifinals and finals take place this week, but there’s a Central League showdown in Pennsylvania and rivals meeting in the county playoffs in New York as well.   And Maryland’s longest win streak is on the line as the public school championship takes place in Baltimore.   Calvert Hall (Md.) vs. Loyola-Blakefield (Md.), May 22     Calvert Hall finished the regular season undefeated in the MIAA A Conference. Jacob Kelly (North Carolina) leads the team with 86 points. He has 42 goals and 44 assists this season. JT Bugliosi (Ohio State) is second with 58 points this season. As the No. 1 seed, the Cardinals had a bye in the first round, so they have not played since May 16, which was a 9-8 win over Loyola-Blakefield. The last time these teams played back-to-back games, with the second being in the playoff, was last season. Calvert Hall won the regular-season meeting, but the Dons won in the playoffs, 9-8. Loyola-Blakefield defeated St. Paul’s (Md.) 9–4 in the quarterfinals. Jack Koras (Maryland) had a hat trick in that win.   Boys’ Latin (Md.) vs. McDonogh (Md.), May 22     Boys’ Latin had a first-round bye to get ready for their semifinal matchup. This meeting is a rematch of last seasons MIAA A Conference title game, which McDonogh won 8-5. Jake Glatz (Penn State) is winning 69 percent of his face-offs for the Lakers this season and Luke Shilling (Johns Hopkins) leads the team with 32 goals. McDonogh is the defending champion and took care of St. Mary’s (Md.) in the quarterfinals, 22–6. Unofficial stats have Jack Parr (Brown) with 44 goals and 20 assists this season, which includes scoring 24 goals and 11 assists during conference play. Parr scored three goals and two assists in the regular season meeting against Boys’ Latin. The Lakers and Eagles went to overtime in that first meeting, with Boys’ Latin winning 10-9.   Garnet Valley (Pa.) vs. Conestoga (Pa.), May 23   The Jaguars and Pioneers met for the second time this season. Garnet valley won 12-11 in overtime during their last meeting. Matt Moore (Virginia) had four points (1 goal, 3 assists) and Jacob Buttermore (Syracuse) had three goals, including the game-winner in that meeting. Tom Sopko (Bucknell) had three goals and an assist for Conestoga in the loss. Garnet Valley has not lost a game to an in-state public school since Moore returned from injury on April 18 against Ridley (Pa.). Their only loss since his return was a 12-11 overtime loss to Inter-Ac champion Haverford School (Pa.), a team ranked in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25 last week. Conestoga has won six straight since it dropped back-to-back games to Garnet Valley and Malvern Prep (Pa.) in late April.   Severna Park (Md.) vs. Winston Churchill (Md.), May 24   Severna Park has the longest winning streak in Maryland at 36 games. The defending Class 3A/4A champions have not lost a game since they dropped the first two games of 2016. They defeated Churchill 10-5 last season in the state semifinals. The Falcons are rolling this season, allowing more than nine goals just once, a 15-13 win over Severn (Md.). Trevor Patschorke (UMBC) leads the team with more than 60 goals this season. Churchill’s only loss this season is to current Super 25 No. 1 Landon (Md.), 14-4. Senior Spencer Knife (Towson) leads the Bulldogs with 98 points, 50 goals and 48 assists this season. Junior Ryan Leonard (Towson) is second with 81 points.   The River School (Mass.) at Noble & Greenough (Mass.), May 24     Two of the New England ISL’s top teams square off in what will be the season finale for Rivers, while the Bulldogs have one more game left. Nobles has only two losses in the conference, while the Red Wings have three. Last year, the Bulldogs pulled away for a 14-11 win to hand Rivers one of its only two losses on the year. Nobles is dealing with some injuries, but in the previous week earned an emotional 11-10 win over Governor’s (Mass.) followed by a one-sided victory over Lawrence Academy (Mass.). The Red Wings are coming off a convincing win over Groton (Mass.).   Smithtown East (N.Y.) vs. Smithtown West (N.Y.), May 25     These traditional rivals meet in the semifinals of the Suffolk AA playoffs. East defeated West 7-5 in their regular season meeting on April 10. Connor DeSimone (Johns Hopkins) and Michael Latini (Fairfield) each had four points for East in that win. Goalie Thomas Harkin made 15 saves. Smithtown East has won five-straight games since a one-goal loss to Ward Melville (N.Y.) on April 27. Smithtown West has won eight straight since losing 10-7 to Ward Melville on April 21. John Hoffman (Providence) leads West with 61 points this season.
