US Lacrosse changed the safety requirements for women's and girls' lacrosse eyewear, starting in January of 2020. Eyewear must be SEI certification standards and meet the ASTM Standard F3077-2017 for the 2020 season. The rule change was made to minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa due to impact and penetration of lacrosse balls. However, the requirement for a physical SEI mark on the eyewear does not take effect until January, 2025 for high school. Please note, goggles and headgear that were bought prior to 2018 may not meet the new 2020 standard. All goggles and headwear sold by Lax.com are SEI certified and meet all ASTM standards.
So if you are unsure if your goggles will meet the new standard you should consider purchasing a new pair. The new 2020 rule will be published in book form later this fall by US Lacrosse. To see if your eyewear is already approved you can check the list on the SEI website at www.seinet.org.
